Company History

Leonard Zuckerman
The origins of LMZ date to 1954 when breakthrough technologies and techniques in the processing of soluble coffee were installed at the Coffee Instants Inc. facility in New York. Under the guidance of Leonard Zuckerman, this predecessor company evolved to become the largest private label manufacturer of soluble coffee in North America over the ensuing 15 years. The manufacturing facilities were subsequently sold in 1969 to a major branded coffee company, at a time when the production of soluble coffee products was moving to coffee producing countries, notably in Brazil.

Utilizing the techniques and expertise gained during decades of research and process engineering, the firmʼs founder contributed significantly to the birth of the Brazilian soluble coffee industry; consulting in the construction and start-up of three instant coffee plants in Brazil and participating in projects in other producing countries, including Colombia, during the late 1960ʼs.

Beginning in 1970, the firmʼs activities began to focus on the importation, trade and supply of soluble coffee products, including freeze-dried, spray-dried and decaffeinated coffees to the roaster- packer industry in North America. By 1973, our company was the largest supplier of imported soluble coffees in North America, counting all the major multi-national coffee brands among our clients. By 1988, our activities had expanded to include the growing markets of Southeast Asia, as the coffee mix and pure coffee industries began their remarkable growth. The breadth of soluble coffee origins and world-class clients has continued to grow during the following 30 years, and the company today is one of the leading firms supplying this increasingly-specialized area of coffee commerce on several continents.

Jonathan Feuer joined the company in 1977, working closely with Len Zuckerman, and has been president of the firm since 1990. By the mid-1980ʼs, present management had developed close working relationships with soluble coffee manufacturers in Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and by 1988, in India and the Far East.

The third generation joined the company in 2006, and Ethan Feuer continues to broaden and deepen our relationships and to work with new clients and continue the development of new projects.

In December 2011, the name of the company was changed to LMZ Soluble Coffee, Inc., reflecting our updated platform for continued growth.
